1980 Charvel ‘Pre-Production’ Star Flame Maple Transparent Blue
The Music Zoo recently acquired this holy grail guitar recently and it sure is a head-turner! This is a 1980 Charvel Star with a transparent blue finish over a bound flame maple body which came from the original owner – who lived in Switzerland and traveled to California in 1980 to custom-order this instrument! Perhaps the most notable aspect of this guitar is the unique headstock shape – where the musician commissioning the guitar asked Charvel to build him something unique and different than everything else…and that’s certainly the result. To us it almost is a precursor to the eventual Jackson 6-in-line pointed headstock!
Specs on the guitar are a full flame maple body paired with an oil-finished birdseye maple neck, a single DiMarzio X2N humbucker wired to a master volume control, and that classic brass tremolo bridge. The guitar remains in overall very good to excellent condition – you can tell it had been well kept for its entire life!
