Fender Custom Shop 1951 Nocaster Masterbuilt Hacksaw Relic Jason Smith Super Faded Aged Vintage Blonde
We’ve all seen those funky pawn shop finds. Vintage guitars that have been modded to hell and back, with different pickups, changed wiring, a new set of tuners. Every once in a while, there’s a diamond in the rough that’s a fantastic player. We wanted to see what would happen if we took that concept to the Fender Custom Shop, and they’ve knocked it out of the park.
This is a ’51 Nocaster heavily modded and masterbuilt by the very talented Jason Smith! The finish is ‘Super Faded Aged’ Vintage Blonde and we asked for this one to feature two EVH Wolfgang humbuckers direct mounted in the neck and middle positions, while retaining the classic twang of a handwound Tele pickup in the bridge! The guitar still has a big and chunky “U” ’51 Nocaster neck profile which we love for digging into with a good grip. This Tele has a very cool wiring setup with a push-pull on the tone control. When the tone control is down, the 5-way switch acts like a 5-way Strat switch would, when it’s up and the switch is in position 1 the neck and bridge is active, and position 2 gets all three pickups at once!
The last modern tweak we gave this one is a set of Sperzel Trim-Lok locking tuners that keep you in tune easily. This is a one of a kind instrument that we’re really excited about, which is showcasing what the Fender Custom Shop is capable of!
